When is Windows 7 coming out? Sometime next fall I believe?
Also, how different is it going to be from Vista and XP?

Before january 2010. New taskbar, new show desktop placement, full date, faster than vista. Any other questions? hehe.

I believe I've asked it in another thread, and I know the true test will come when I try it... But is there any word about whether VST music software for XP will be compatible on Windows 7?

It will be, you can easily toggle the compatibility settings on the icons' properties. I even installed my Xp version of my lan card on win 7 with just using the compatibility feature.
