I have recently purchased Call Of Duty 4 with the intention of playing it on my laptop. My laptop specifications are: 1.6Ghz Dual Core processor, 2Gb RAM and running on Vista.

Reading from the box, the only part of my system that isn't really fit for playing COD4 is the graphics card which is the standard card that came with the laptop. So my question is: Which graphics card would you recommend for me to purchase? Bearing in mind I'm using a laptop and my top end budget would probably be about £200 to £250. I could bump it up considerably if really need be, but I'd prefer to pay around £200.

Any MXM card by Nvidia will greatly improve your graphics. Assuming you are talking about internal swapping and not external cards, that tfit has implied. (if so, then I would agree with tfit here and say deal with the lag and shoddy video).

If however you want to change the internal video card, then you need to do some homework. First, does your notebook even HAVE an MXM slot? If it does not and you aren't running a "Dell-Slot" notebook, then it will be impossible to change, as your video card will be soldered to the MoBo.

("Dell-Slot" is the ATI version of MXM, actually called AXIOM, which in 2004, Dell computers started using for their vid cards.)

You can check if you have an MXM machine by looking at the list found here.

So let's say your laptop IS on the list. Now you have to get a video card. Only to find out no one sells them (supply and demand my friend).

You have 2 options, search "MXM" on ebay, or check out mxm-upgrade.com as they will sell some cards sometimes.

Then if you get one, how to install it? Another trick.

Check out MXM-Upgrade for some tutorials. Don't forget to read about heat compatibility, tubing, size and screw offset.

Other solutions? I would suggest none. A graphics card over usb/pcmcia wouldn't do you any good.

You're sarcastic! If I would not consider your advice, please don't be angry or something. I will just wait for other users to answer my question. Anyway, thanks for your answer, it helps.

Frankly, a laptops' graphics card is as good as it gets. You usually don't replace them as it can have problems with the batteries and the capacity of your system overall. If you can just tweak your settings to the lowest image quality, then you can play COD4 well to your laptop.
