Default Little assist in cooling please

Hello guys. Uhh.. Can you give me advices on cooling please? Actually I know how to overclock but I'm not good at cooling. Last time that I overclocked it smoked. Overheated I guess... Any suggestions? I mean real deal suggestions.

  • Start with a good case with nice air flow, I use a Antec 1200
  • Get a good heatsink for the cpu, stock ones suck. I use Tuniq Tower 120 and Zalman CNPS9700 with good results
  • Use some quality thermal paste like Arctic Silver 5
  • Get rig of clutter, you can have the nicest case but if its cluttered with wires and cables you will cut your air flow radically.Use rounded cables, and strap and hide wire when ever possible.
If your looking to get a little more extreme you could lap the cpu and heatsink. Then the next step up is watercooling.

Talking Great

Guess Kingvinnie alerady helped you out huh. taht would be my advice actually since I haven't seen you actual PC. The only advice I can give now is to pour some water to cool it down.

Cool Fan

Actually... You could also try using a real electric fan to use for cooling down. Its really helpful.

If it smoked then perhaps it lacks air flow in there. Check for clutters and arrange you wiring inside. This usually is one reason for the that isn't considered by many.

So I think I'm going to try doing exactly what he has done. But I do have a question here. Notice that his DRam Frequency is 360 @ 1:1 ratio. Isn't that too slow? Or is the system actually running at 2x that @ 720MHZ? Shouldn't it be running closer to 800MHz? Or infact I was expecting the RAM to be OCed closer to 1000MHZ. Am I missing something?

My 2nd question is not really about overclocking but rather concerns the ways to set up SATA drives. I just got my components yesterday and after I put them together, I just put the Tiny Vista CD into the CD ROM drive, reboot, and let Tiny vista do the rest. I didn't even change any Bios settings.

After I've installed everything then I decided to have a look at the bios to see what I can change, in regards to OCing. But then I realized that in the BIOS SATA drives are set to run as IDE, and iaACHI is disabled. Now I thought only when I install windows XP do i need to install SATA drivers with a floppy before I install windows. Turns out my vista has been installed with my harddisks as IDEs. SO I just tried changing the settings in BIOS to see my drives as SATA and enable ACHI. And (probably predictably) I get the blue screen of death when I load windows. I really know nothing in this area. Can somone please what I am supposed to do to get my SATA drives working as SATA devices with ACHI etc. so I get the real performance of my drives. Or does this not actually matter and what I have done is correct?
