I think AVG Free Edition is the best Free Anti Virus out there, free updates and protection against new threats.. cool are there any free anti virus out there besides AVG?

I'm also using AVG Free, but my friend's using something call QuickHeal. I don't know whether it's a better one, though. :P

I had tried around 50 anti viruses so far and only a handful of them are the best. According to me bot defender is the best software however you would need to have a high RAM memory to use bit defender. If you are having a low memory space then NOD32 anti virus is the best in market as it is effective and very light on the computer.

Are these freeware? Or shareware?

They are not freewares. However my technique of using them is to have download the trial version of them. When the trial is going to get over just uninstall the software and install the new one and the same technique goes for the newly installed anti virus. This technique works like a charm if you have NOD32 setup. Just uninstall Nod32 before it expires and install the same Nod32 again. Just a few minutes work and a very effective protection.

I'm currently using Kaspersky Internet Security 8.0 and so far I'm very satisfied. For free anti-virus Avast has my vote.
