Post Increasing internet speed

How do you boost your internet speed. Do you use any software for this purpose or is there any way in which internet speed can be increased without spending any money on hardware. Any suggestions.

I think your Internet speed is pretty much determined by the speed of your ISP and your modem, assuming you have a "current" computer. I'd like to hear the answer to that too.

I think it could be messed up if you had a lot of huge files on your desktop or very small RAM. When I upgraded to 2 gig, I didn't notice a change in my speed online.

Yes you can maximize it but can't literally speed it up. There is a plethora of download managers on the web that can download files in multiple sessions at the same time to fully utilize your internet speed. Another is the good ol' Torrent clients, mmm, gotta love 'em.

Are there legitimate torrent sites? I'm not familiar with them, other than hearing about those sites in reference to pirating software, music and movies... Which of course sucks noisily.

torrent downloads are never safe. some of the files shared on torrents contains viruses. if you will download things using torrents make sure you have an updated antivirus protection.

Torrents can be a great source, but as with any internet download, you have to use common sense. I tend to avoid poorly spelled or newly posted torrents. I'm not the first to download ANYTHING. As always, it's always a good idea to have an antivirus program installed when you're going to download anything from the internet.

Default Increasing internet speed

Speeding your own internet is a process with a few simple steps:

Delete your temporary internet files from Windows.
Delete your cookies from Windows.
Delete your cache and cookies for any web browsers you might have besides Internet Explorer.
Use anti-spyware to eliminate annoying pop-ups and more junk that slows down your computers operation
