Default Do you use an external HD?

I'm using a Buffalo external HD, but I've been told it's too slow! How do you know if it's slow or not?

I like the WB Passports. I have a couple of 500gb ones. There tiny and don't need external power.

To find out the speed of your Hard Drive look on the label. It should say what the RPM is. 7200 rpm is average.

I use a drive speed checker. It gives you stats on write, read, delete speed for small and large files. You can even compare different drives in one run.

My external HD is a Maxtor Basics 320GB. It's USB-powered and I got it for the equivalent of only about 77 USD.

Oooh! Thanks for the link! I'll try it later. I bough mine in Japan for 9000yen (around 90USD). The downside is it's 110 volts and when I came back home, it's 220V here so I need to use a transformer. :(

I don't personally use an external hard drive but check this HD looks pretty cool:

I used one. But then again when i was hit with a power failure, the drive reverted back to 1.0 usb speeds which i can't reverse the process in myriad efforts. I ended up opening it and connecting the drive directly to a sata port better than an external hdd IMO.

I have an iomega that I really like so far. It's about 50% bigger than an iPhone.

I got it to back up files that were important. Before that, I backed things up on CD-R, but I've since heard that's not a great idea.

I've got a 500gb and 160gb external drive. I mainly use it for my backups. it usually contains my program installers and documents and some movies and mp3's.
