Overclocking is when you use a program or the BIOS to make your processor, graphics card, RAM, or other components run faster than they are suppoused to. Though some computer companies (like Dell's XPS desktops) overclock their processors standard, you need really good cooling to keep your computer from self-destructing, and overclocking may even shorten the life of the components. My friend and his dad know everything there is about PCs and overclocked the processor to be incredibly fast, like WAAAY past even the danger zone. It was cool for like, 10 minutes untill it overheated past the point that the BIOS was set to shut the computer down at. I think he said it got to like 80 degrees? I can't remember. Anyway, it fried the motherboard, and every single component was incredibly hot. That's the best case scenario.

Only overclock if you have tons of cash to spend, have a great pc cooling system, and know what you're doing!
